A new film adaptation of Italian author Carlo Collodi’s ‘Pinocchio’ is set to be made with Italy director Matteo Garrone on board.
The movie will feature Italian actor Toni Servillo as the wooden puppet’s father Geppetto in the Collodi story.
HanWay Films has acquired international rights of the film which is set in Italy.
The Italian director is slated to make the adaptation from his own script originated from Collodi’s famous story.
Referring to his new imagining of the classic tale, Garrone was quoted by the media as saying that “Pinocchio is a dream of mine that goes back in time to when I was a child,” adding that “with this movie I will complete my journey through the fairy-tale world.”
Garrone picked up the Grand Prix given by the jury at Cannes Film Festival for ‘Gomorrah’ and ‘Reality’ in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
“The love I feel for Pinocchio isn’t love at first sight. It’s a character I’ve always been drawn to, and many have noticed his influence both in ‘Gomorrah’ and ‘Reality’,” the director further noted.
Servillo is one of Italy’s leading actors who played in the Oscar-winning film ‘The Great Beauty.’
